Revy, Day 9

Had a continental breakfast at the inn and got all ready to go. Went to the grocery store and looked for a bike shop. Cameron and I were tired but the plan was to push on anyway. We took off late and biked 10 km in the wrong direction.  Turned back and decided we needed a day off. We bought some bike supplies and planned for a 147 km bike ride to Golden the next day.  Went to the KOA campground and relaxed. I set up the tent solo for the first time ever and Cameron grabbed a duck!

Revelstoke, Day 8

Woke up late and had a pancake breakfast with our hosts. Got all geared up to go and just as we were pulling out of the driveway Kristi noticed that Cameron had a flat tire. Not a problem though because Andrew was previously a bike mechanic and had a spare tube. He fixed it up for us in no time. Finally hit the road and got on the Transcanada highway. The ride was nice and short. The weather wasn't the best but 3 valley gap was still pretty cool to see in the rain. Pulled into Revelstoke and met JF at Macdonalds. He worked in Golden and told us we could crash in the backyard of his bike shop when we get there! Found a cheap inn and slept there for the night.

Sicamous, Day 7

Had a great ride with Tom, Sandra, and Gerry. Cruised through farmland the entire trip. Had lunch with the team at a nice spot in Enderby. Tom and Sandra bought us tea and we said our goodbyes as we carried on to Sicamous. The ride was pretty easy. We stopped for a swim at Mara Lake and then met up with our third warmshowers hosts in a row Andrew and Kristi. Had a very nice pasta supper with the family and then went to the top of a mountain to take some beautiful pictures of the town of Sicamous. Finished the night off with some ice cream and a wildlife hunt!

Vernon, Day 6

Biked the Okanagan Valley! Words can't describe its beauty. If anyone wants to take a day to go for a bike ride I suggest Summerland to Vernon. Easy riding with an amazing view. Got to Vernon and climbed Turtle mountain to meet our new hosts Tom and Sandra. We went to a neighborhood party then had a fish and lasagna supper. Tom caught the fish. Our hosts set us up with accomodations for the following night. Chatted into the evening and crashed into a nice cozy bed.

Summerland, Day 5

Big decision, go to Penticton 112 km or shortcut to summerland 94 km? We decided to take the shortcut. Big mistake. The first half of the ride was great, very little traffic on the farmland road, and it was mostly downhill. Stopped for lunch at Chain Lake and had a swim. The second half was a gravel road that was meant for mountain bikes. There was no traffic at all and we were biking into the wilderness, into bear country. My fender was getting clogged up with mud because it was raining. Of course it was. I had to work twice as hard to climb the one monster hill that had to be right in the middle of the dirt road. Very scary situation. We did get to summerland in one piece though. Went to the grocery store and was approached by Ella, who offered her home to us. Someone must have been looking out for us because that couldn'have come at a better time. Thanks Ella.

Princeton, Day 4

The ride to Princeton was suppose to be easy, or so we thought. There is another crazy hill to climb, Sunday Summit. We left Manning Park late and discovered this climb in the afternoon. We felt like we couldn't get to Princeton soon enough. Nothing went right, my mirror broke off, transport trucks were beeping at us and Cameron had a flat tire. Finally got to Princeton at the start of a thunder storm and decided to stay at a motel.

Manning Park, Day 3

We were warned about Allison Pass. Cameron's uncle Ross, who cycled across Canada before, and some random lady in Hope put the fear in both of us. Ross was right that it would be tough, but the random lady thought that we would be eaten by bear...glad she was wrong. Got to the summit exhausted and had to snap a picture. We were so happy that we conquered the dreaded Allison Pass. Met a fellow cross Canada cyclist, Eva. We shared a campsite at Lightning Lake campground and had some tea over a campfire.

Hope, Day 2

The ride to Hope B.C. was beautiful but tough. Cameron and I had never seen mountains surround us before. It really makes you feel small. Crashed at a campground and ate subway. The tent proved to be waterproof...yahoo!

Mission, Day 1

Today is the first day we start our journey across Canada on our bicycles. Aunt Patsy was there to see us off at her doorstep in doowtown Vancouver. The traffic was busy, even for a Sunday,  but the city is very bike friendly, so we got by okay. Beautiful scenery along the way to Mission. Pretty easy riding. Met our warmshowers hosts Dan and Gary. Gary made us lasagna and we had a picnic on the beach with his family. Later that night had a glass of wine with Dan.
